Grilled Steak Skewers Ingredients

● 1/2 red bell pepper

● 1/2 orange bell pepper

● 1/2 green bell pepper

● 1/2 head of cauliflower

● 1/2 yellow onion

● 1 pound boneless round steak

● 8 wooden skewers

● 1 Tablespoon olive oil

● Salt and pepper, to taste

● 1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice

● 1 Tablespoon fresh lime juice

Grilled Steak Skewers Directions

  1. Slice red, orange and green bell pepper halves into large bite-sized pieces. Cut cauliflower head into large florets and cut onion into large pieces, keeping several layers together.
  2. Cut steak into 1”-thick pieces so they are similar in size to the vegetables. Thread the vegetables and steak onto the skewers, alternating pepper colors, cauliflower, onion, and meat. Brush skewers with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat grill or grill pan over medium-high heat (about 400 degrees Fahrenheit). Grill skewers for 3-4 minutes per side, rotating so meat is browned on all sides and vegetables are charred.
  4. (Note: The USDA recommends cooking beef to 145 degrees Fahrenheit. But keep in mind that a medium-rare steak is done at about 130-135 degrees Fahrenheit, and meat will continue to rise in temperature as it rests after being removed from the grill.)
  5. Remove grilled steak skewers from heat and place on a serving plate. Squeeze lemon and lime juice on top, to taste, and serve hot.

How Do You Grill Skewers

Learning to make grilled steak skewers is super easy. The process is as simple as washing, cutting, and skewering your favorite vegetables and then layering with your meat of choice. That said, we do have a few pointers if you really want to crush these juicy grilled steak kabobs.

Can I Use Metal Skewers On The Grill?

Everyone has their preference for which type of skewer to use, but the most common are bamboo and metal skewers. Bamboo is a good choice for cheap and disposable kabob skewers, but does require the extra step of soaking for 30-60 minutes in water prior to grilling to prevent burning.

Great metal grilling skewers will have a flat, knife-like shape and ring handle to make handling and even and thorough cooking easy while also ensuring your meat and veggies don’t slide around as you turn your grilled steak kabobs.

What Steak Is Best For Skewers?

The best steak for this healthy steak kabob recipe is likely sirloin. Because it’s a tender enough cut to not need a kabob marinade to break down its fibers, it works well in small portions on the grill. It’s also fairly lean and makes a perfect addition to a healthy, balanced diet.

You could also easily work with flat iron or strip steaks. Even tenderloin would do well for these mouthwatering grilled steak skewers.

How Do I Arrange Ingredients On Grilling Skewers?

Arranging ingredients on grilling skewers successfully is a matter of just a few things.

  • Ensure your vegetables and meat are cut into consistently-sized pieces—approximately 1” to 1.5” cubes.
  • Arrange your ingredients with enough space—maybe just ¼” between each piece of food on the skewer. Packing them in too tightly will create cold spots and uneven cooking.
  • Consider using veggies that are similar in density to your meat of choice. In this instance, semi-hearty vegetables like onions, cauliflower, and peppers will work well with your grilled steak skewers because they’ll all finish cooking in about the same amount of time.
